Youth ‘n the Park: Ed Blake Park Youth Consultation
Download
In mid-June 2009, as part of the Government of Canada’s economic stimulus package, the City of London, Ontario received approximately $1.175 million to develop Ed Blake Park in northeast London. Local residents advocated for their vision of the park space through an ongoing community consultation process between the City of London and area residents (see Appendix C for a detailed timeline), and through the organization of grassroots community groups such as the NELCE Ed Blake Park Action Group.
As a means to continue this dialogue and engage the voices of young residents (a key demographic in northeast London), four community organizations – Life Resource Centre, London InterCommunity Health Centre, LUSO Community Services, and the Northeast London Community Engagement Group – came together to gather the ideas of local youth regarding their vision for the park. The sponsoring organizations engaged the services of Platinum Leadership Inc. to facilitate a consultation meeting with young people from northeast London and present the findings of this meeting.
This report represents the findings of that meeting and attempts to express the voices of local youth as they articulate their hopes, dreams, concerns and vision for Ed Blake Park and the northeast London community.
